How do I test the Hard Drive on my computer?

Should your computer be accessible, you can test for Hard Drive inconsistencies on your Toshiba notebook by using one of the following tools:

Toshiba HDD/SSD Alert
Toshiba PC Health Monitor
Toshiba PC Diagnostic Tool
Windows Check Disk

Find relevant troubleshooting steps below


Toshiba HDD/SSD Alert

1. Click on Start.

2. Select All Programs.

3. Select the TOSHIBA folder.

4. Select the Utilities folder.

5. Click on HDD/SSD Alert.



The Disk Drive status should read ‘Your HDD is working properly’.

Should there be any indications of possible inconsistencies, it is recommended that you backup your personal files (example: documents, emails, music, pictures etc) on the computer and then you may go here to obtain an assessment of your unit.


Toshiba PC Health Monitor

1. Click on Start.

2. Select All Programs.

3. Select the TOSHIBA folder.

4. Select the Utilities folder.

5. Click on PC Health Monitor.

6. If this is the first time you are visiting the Health Monitor, click Next and then review & accept terms and conditions.



The Hard Drive Status should read ‘Good’.

Toshiba PC Diagnostic Tool

1. Click on Start.

2. Select All Programs.

3. Select the TOSHIBA folder.

4. Select the Utilities folder.

5. Click on PC Diagnostic Tool.



6. Select the Diagnostic Tool tab.



7. Select HARDDISK from the list (tick mark).

8. Click Start Diagnostic.

9. Click Yes when prompted to start the test.

10. Click OK when Diagnostic Test is completed.

Windows Check Disk

1. Click on Start.

2. Click to open Computer.

3. Right-click the hard disk that you want to check, and then click Properties.



4. Click the Tools tab.

5. Under Error-checking, click Check now. If prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, enter the password or provide confirmation.



6. Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors (tick mark).



7. Click Start.

8. If warned that you will be unable to check the disk when in use, click Schedule disk check.



9. The disk check will resume when the notebook is restarted.
